Over the summer, OKI partnered with Dearborn County, Indiana to secure funding for an Environmental Resilience Institute at Indiana University Fellow, Grayce Klayer, who worked in Lawrenceburg and Greendale to identify the best locations for 100 new trees.
In October, the plan came to fruition, with over 30 people attending a volunteer event to plant the first 23 of the 100 trees on the Lawrenceburg School Campus.
The locations Grayce selected are prime for reducing heat island impacts and increasing natural biodiversity. . The rest of the trees will soon be planted by The Davey Resource Group.
Thanks to Nicole Daily, Dearborn County Planning & Zoning Director and local project leader, the volunteers, and IU and the Davey Resource Group for providing the trees.
