OKI created the Bike Route Guide as a regional resource for cyclists, with routes for commuters and recreational riders to destinations throughout the region.

The adapted methodology used for the Guide is a bike comfort index score. The score is determined through two subscores, a context subscore and a traffic subscore. These combine to make a score out of 100 points, with a higher score meaning a more comfortable riding segment for most riders. The scores are categorized as follows: Most Comfortable, Comfortable, Less Comfortable, and Use With Caution.

All values reflect general conditions; not specifically to rush hour. Most routes will have more traffic during rush hour — which are 7-9 a.m. and 4-6 p.m. weekdays. In some instances, a route may be better in one direction than in the other.

Roadways, including the signed bike routes, are shared with motor vehicles and have no special provision for bicycle travel, unless they are classified as a bike lane or shared use path. Cyclists should use all safety precautions, obey the rules of the road, and use their best judgment based on current conditions.
