The Major Aquifer is the "buried valley" aquifer system underlying rivers and major streams within the planning area of the Ohio-Kentucky-Indiana Regional Council of Governments. The aquifer's value for drinking and industrial water supply - and its vulnerability to contamination from overlying land uses and recharge areas - warrant protection through land use planning.
