Regional Trends One aim of the Strategic Regional Policy Plan is to maintain our economic vitality; but some of our costly land use and infrastructure trends can sap that vitality. We can improve our prosperity and competitiveness by altering costly trends and save tax dollars at the local and regional levels through better long-range planning and day-to-day operations. The basic trends presented below relate to public works, infrastructure needs, trip generation, projected vehicle miles traveled and to overall transportation planning and expenditures. For transportation needs alone, OKI has projected a federal shortfall of more than three billion by the year 2030. This does not include funding needed to maintain and improve local street networks.
