Ohio Kentucky Indiana Regional Council of Governments Job Title: Water Quality Internship Department: Regional Planning Division Reports to: Regional Planning Manager Classification: Temporary – Not to exceed 780 hours Part-time and Flexible Hours (Approximately 15/week) $8.00/hour Available July 1, 2008 through June 30, 2009 Date: April 8, 2008 Job Summary: Position requires a significant background in environmental science, and a background and/or interest in planning and GIS. Individual will work on regional planning for water quality issues under the guidance of an OKI Senior Planner. Examples of Duties:  Research, collect, organize and evaluate information of importance to OKI planning efforts  Assist with field work  Assist in writing reports  Assist staff in preparing materials for OKI committees  Create and update contact and/or GIS databases for water and wastewater service providers and groundwater and surface water organizations  Write technical and non-technical reports, summaries and presentations  Participate in meetings by setting up and tearing down displays and equipment, and by assisting in presentations  Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned Job Qualifications:  Student in Environmental Science, Urban and Regional Planning, or related degree program  Creativity, self-motivation, and ability to organize tasks and materials  Strong interpersonal skills  Effective oral and written communication skills License, certification or registration: Valid drivers license, or ability to obtain one within one month of start of internship. Description

OKI Regional Council of Governments seeks a professional level person responsible for 3D visualizations, GIS analysis, web site design and graphic design projects, brochures, newsletters, and websites. Qualifications: Bachelor’s Degree in graphic design, planning, geography (GIS), communications or related field. Minimum of two year’s experience with relevant graphic arts experience in related fields. One year experience with web site design and development. Knowledge of 3D visualization software (SketchUp, 3D Studio Max, etc.), graphic design software (Adobe Illustrator, InDesign, etc.) and web publishing software (Adobe GoLive or Microsoft FrontPage). Salary commensurate with experience. Data Services Manager - Transportation Model April 30, 2008
Description

OKI is seeking a qualified professional to lead the development and application of the agency’s regional travel demand forecasting model. For over 30 years, OKI has developed, maintained, and applied travel demand models in support of area-wide multi modal transportation system planning for an eight county region and corridor-level traffic engineering and transportation planning for local governments. OKI is also responsible for forecasting vehicle emissions for the air quality non-attainment area within the region. The agency’s current travel demand model is a state-of-the-practice four-step travel demand model with an emission estimation module. A household trip survey will be conducted in year 2009. At this time, OKI is refining these models and developing advanced and experimental modeling methodologies in order to advance the modeling practice within the region. This individual would play a key role in this effort. Primary Responsibilities • Manage and direct workflow required for transportation modeling and analysis. • Ensure transportation modeling and analytical capabilities are credible, state of practice and effective for policy analysis. • Direct research and development of new techniques and software, and programming applications for the travel demand model enhancements. • Oversee the maintenance of accurate transportation database to ensure accurate and up-to-date socioeconomic data, traffic and transit passenger counts, and existing and planned transit and highway network assumptions. • Coordinate with other departments and transportation agencies for data and model development. • Administer and monitor modeling budget and consultant contracts. • Prepare and present written, oral, and visual reports to policy and technical committees. • Participate in selecting, training, and evaluating assigned personnel. Job Qualifications • Minimum qualifications: o Bachelor’s Degree in Civil / Transportation Engineering, Transportation Planning or a related field. o Five years experience in travel demand modeling with two years of supervisory or management experience. Education beyond a Bachelor’s Degree may be substituted for one year of required experience. • Considerable knowledge of the principles and practices of travel demand forecasting, traffic engineering, and transit operations applied to the modeling process. • Knowledge of metropolitan planning requirements and issues. • Direct experience in the development, application, and explanation of traditional four-step transportation models. • Hands-on experience and skills with modeling software to support model development and applications. • Knowledge of advanced transportation modeling techniques. • Experience using GIS software to design transportation-related geo-databases and mapping applications is desirable. • Experience developing transportation modeling applications using computer programming languages is desirable. • Strong research, statistical and analytical skills. • Experience supervising and evaluating the work of professional and technical personnel. • Experience providing administrative and professional leadership and direction for assigned programs. • Ability to communicate highly technical information effectively, both orally and in writing.
